Main Duties of Placement

Consultant-led ward rounds every morning.

Pre-assessment clinic.

Two weekend shifts.

Seven days with Hospital at Night.

Typical Work Pattern

On call: 8am-4:30pm.

On call late: 2pm-10pm.

Ward: 8am-6:30pm.

Pre-assessment clinic (includes jobs on ward in between patients): 8am-4:30pm.

7 nights with Hospital at Night.

Learning Opportunities

FY1 tutorials every Thursday. Surgery grand ward round on Wednesday morning. Medical grand rounds at Tuesday lunchtime. Medical X-ray meeting Friday lunchtime.


Mandatory FY1 tutorials every Thursday.

Unique Selling Points

Working directly with consultants, working in a team with the other FY1s. In absence of formal medical referral, FY1s have quite a big role in looking after non-surgical patient issues so good
