Main Duties of Placement

Daily ward rounds; at least twice a week consultant-led.

Acute medical receiving with supervision from a Registrar and a Consultant.

Typical Work Pattern

Blocks of 6 weeks 'on call' and 6 weeks on medical ward.

Evening shifts once weekly for 4 weeks whilst on ward block.

Learning Opportunities

Regular opportunities for ward-based teaching.

Weekly MDTM on most wards.

Weekly Grand Round and x-ray meeting.

Monthly Acute Medicine M&M.


Mandatory FY2 teaching programme 1 hour per week.

Interdepartmental teaching depending on ward to which you are attached.

FY2s describe the post as having great exposure to general medicine with lots of opportunities to develop clinical skills. Small and friendly hospital and trainees report excellent clinical supervision.
