Placement General Adult Psychiatry

Hospital(s) Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline
Main Duties of Placement

Attending ward round/day hospital meetings.

Admitting and monitoring patients admitted under psychiatry, including medical needs/assessment.

Psychiatric risk assessment of patients admitted to hospital following self-harm, psychosis, suicide risk.

Psychiatric assessment of medical patients in rehabilitation wards.

Home visit appointments for outpatients.

Assisting with ECT.

Typical Work Pattern

Monday-Friday 9am-5pm but occasional long days (9am-9.30pm) and blocks of nights.

Occasional 24 hour shifts followed by a 9:00-13:00 shift the following day. A small number of weekends on-call.

Learning Opportunities

Regular opportunities for ward-based teaching.

Philosophy meeting most weeks.

Teaching

Hospital FY2 teaching programme 1 hour per week.

Supervision with consultant once per week most weeks.
