Placement Geriatric Medicine: Rehabilitation

Main Duties of Placement

FY2s are part of the clinical team, providing assessment and management of elderly patients and “all age” stroke patients. You participate in regular consultant-led ward rounds, daily board rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings. Some evening and weekend shifts are based in ARU where you assess “all age” acute medical patients.

Typical Work Pattern

Day shifts are 9-5, with late cover until 9:15. Weekend shifts are 9-2 (generally speaking you will do 2-3 weekends on the geriatric wards). You also cover ARU for 3 evening shifts (after a normal day on your ward) and two half weekends during the four month post. 

Learning Opportunities

Multiple learning opportunities including bedside teaching on ward rounds, weekly departmental teaching and weekly x-ray meeting. You also have the opportunity to present a case to the rest of the department.

Teaching

Weekly mandatory FY2 teaching and twice weekly departmental teaching.
