Placement Haematology

Main Duties of Placement

The majority of time is spent in the Haematology inpatient wards, ward 8 and 8U in the management of patients with a range of haematological disorders but predominately haematological cancers. There is also some time spent covering the Haematology day case service in ward 1.

Typical Work Pattern

Majority of shifts are day shifts 08:30-17:00 but also include late 14:00-22:00, weekend 09:00-21:30 and night shifts 21:00-09:00.

Learning Opportunities

As well as weekly F2 teaching there are weekly departmental meetings attended by the whole unit as well as plenty opportunities for 'on the job' learning and clinical audit.

Teaching

Hospital F2 teaching 1 hour per week.

Unit departmental meetings 1 hour per week.

Unique Selling Points

Very good experience in managing the acutely unwell patient. Good support from senior colleagues.
