Placement Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Main Duties of Placement

Pre-operative assessment/preparation.

On-call shifts including gynae referrals, obstetric emergencies and assessment of obstetric patients.

General ward work; very few inpatients.

Typical Work Pattern

Full shift; banded at 40% as intensity low.

HAN shifts include O&G cover.

1 weekend in 4-5 (weekends very quiet).

Learning Opportunities

Mainly clinic- and theatre-based teaching. Lots of opportunity for both if you're interested. Weekly gynae/onc MDM. Monthly preterm labour meetings.


Overflowing with teaching opportunities; full DRCOG tutorial programme, skills based courses, Obs emergency study day etc.
