Main Duties of Placement

General medical care of inpatients in Edinburgh Cancer Centre, including attending ward rounds, daily reviews of patients and clerking elective and emergency admissions.

Out-of-hours cover of the wards.

Occasional member of hospital cardiac arrest team.

Typical Work Pattern

Shift pattern varies between 0900-1730, 0900-1900 and 1400-2200 on weekdays and 0900-2130 on weekends.

Nightshift cross cover with Haematology.

Learning Opportunities

Formal teaching (weekly F2 teaching and weekly Oncology SHO teaching) and opportunistic learning on the wards.

Optional attendance at outpatient clinics and radiotherapy planning suite if rota allows.


Hospital F2 teaching 1 hour per week.

Oncology SHO teaching 1 hour per week.

Given responsibility for reviewing inpatients with good support from registrars and consultants.
