Main duties of placement:
  • Accompanying senior team members on ward rounds and doing ward jobs such as discharge letters.
  • There is no CCU component to the F1 job
Typical work pattern:
  • Monday to Friday 9am-5pm with late cover till 9.30pm once or twice a week.
  • Weekend cover is provided approximately once a month and the F1 contributes to the Hospital at Night rota.
Learning opportunities:
  • Teaching on ward rounds.
  • There is a multi-disciplinary team meeting with cardiothoracics on Friday lunchtimes and monthly morbidity and mortality meetings.
Teaching:
  • Hospital F1 teaching programme 1 hour per week (Tuesday).
Unique selling points:
  • Assessing medical patients who are acutely ill, consultant teaching on ward rounds.
