Main duties of placement:
  • You will be part of the Oncology ward team, based on one of the general oncology wards with at least one other ward doctor (F2, IMT, GPST or CF) and often, though not always an ANP.
  • You will be ward based and provide general medical care to patients allocated to you, including attending ward rounds, daily review of patients and amending clinical management plans as needed.
  • You will be well supported by the oncology registrar and consultant teams responsible for your patients.
Typical work pattern:
  • In Oncology you will work Generally you work 0900-1700
  • Out of hours work in this post is with acute medicine.
  • When working 0900-2130 you will cover the medical admissions unit (MAU) from 1700-2130.
  • Weekend work is done in MAU from 0900-2130.
Learning opportunities:
  • You will be well supported by the registrars and consultant teams within oncology and by the acute medical registrars and consultants when working out of hours.
  • There are strong links with the Hospital Palliative Care team to help support patients with palliative care needs.
  • There is opportunity to attend outpatient clinics and the radiotherapy planning suite if the rota allows.  
  • Opportunistic informal ward learning.
Teaching:
  • F1 teaching at WGH for 1 hour per week.
