Main duties of placement:
  • Assessing, investigating and treating a wide range of presentations to the Emergency Department, including paediatrics, medical, surgical, trauma and obstetrics and gynaecology
  • F2 doctors are expected to assess patients, formulate a plan, commence initial investigations and discuss patients with the senor doctor on shift
  • F2s are also expected to be part of the team looking after resuscuitation cases, under the support of seniors 
Typical work pattern:
  • Full shift pattern including day, back, late and night shifts
  • Significant number of weekends
Learning opportunities:
  • High turnover of clinical exposure
  • Focus on time management, clinical decision making and investigation governance
  • Regular one-to-one consultant and middle grade teaching on a case by case basis
Teaching:
  • Access to monthly ED teaching
  • Daily ED huddle teaching
  • Regular paediatric and trauma simulation session in situ in the emergency department
  • Hospital wide F2 teaching

  • This is a fast-paced job with a large array of presentations, with significant opportunity for procedural skills such are suturing, fracture management, dislocation reductions, cardioversion and resuscitation skills.
