Main duties of placement:

Cardiology:

  • Accompanying senior team members on ward rounds and doing ward jobs such as discharge letters.
  • There is no CCU component to the F1 job

Acute Medicine:

  • Clerking acute medical admissions, going on consultant ward rounds (8am and 4.30pm), reviewing unwell patients, liaising with other specialties both within and beyond RIE.
Typical work pattern:

Cardiology:

  • Monday to Friday 9am-5pm with late cover till 9.30pm once or twice a week.
  • Weekend cover is provided approximately once a month and the F1 contributes to the Hospital at Night rota.

Acute Medicine:

  • This job is full shift, with blocks of day (08.00 to 18.00), late (16.30 to 23.00) and night (22.00 to 09.00) shifts.
Learning opportunities:

Teaching on ward rounds.

There is a multi-disciplinary team meeting with cardiothoracics on Friday lunchtimes and monthly morbidity and mortality meetings.
Teaching:

Hospital F1 teaching programme 1 hour per week (Tuesday).

Acute Medicine teaching programme 1 hour per week (Friday).
Unique selling points:

Assessing medical patients who are acutely ill, consultant teaching on ward rounds.
