Main Duties of Placement
|
- Updating ward patient list.
- Attending 8am and 4pm registrar-led ward rounds.
- Discharge letters as unit is part of the acute surgical receiving unit so a high turnover of patients.
- Responsible for organsing investigations and following up results.
- Management of acutely unwell patients.
- Admission of elective patients.
- Practical procedures e.g., IV cannulation, NG tubes.

Typical Work Pattern
|
In every three weeks:
- 8am-5pm shifts.
- Two on-call weekends in 4 month block.
- 1-2 7 nights sets of night shifts.
- 1-2 weeks covering the acute surgical receiving ward.

Learning Opportunities
|
- Informal registrar ward teaching.
- Opportunities to gain experience in practical procedures.

Teaching
|
- FY1 teaching as per delivered education programme.
|
