Main duties of placement:
  • 8.30am safety huddle every day.
  • 9am ward round every day.
  • Consultant ward round on Monday and Friday.
  • Spoken full round with whole MDT on Wednesday
Typical work pattern:

8am to 5pm Monday to Friday working, on average 18 long shifts, 8 night shifts and 4.5 weekends in a 17 week rotation.

Out of hours commitment to surgery and renal medicine.

Learning opportunities:
  • Radiology and case presentation on Friday morning (8am-10am).
  • Journal club Monday lunchtime every week hosted by the junior twice in the block.
  • North of Scotland joint meeting Thursday 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
Teaching:
  • FY1 teaching as per delivered education programme.
  • Consultant teaching weekly.
Unique selling points:

Good and close working relationship with registrars and consultants.

Good lumbar puncture practice.
