Main duties of placement:

Helping to coordinate the care of children within Ward 29 (acute paediatrics), the paediatric assessment unit (PAU), Children’s investigation unit (CIU) and Ward 30 (surgical day ward)

Typical work pattern:

Mixture of standard days, long days, night shifts, weekends and non-clinical days.

Learning opportunities:
  • Weekly joint paediatric & radiology meeting.
  • Paediatric Grand Round.
  • Opportunity to attend paediatric clinics (1-2 per 4 months).
  • Opportunity to attend paediatric theatre cases if keen.
  • Audit & QI work.
Teaching:
  • FY1 teaching as per delivered education programme.
  • Weekly in house teaching.
  • Opportunities to teach medical students.

Opportunity to gain confidence interacting with children; and to learn new practical skills e.g capillary blood taking and paediatric venepuncture.
