Main duties of placement:
  • Updating patient list.
  • Ward rounds.
  • Clerking in elective patients for Plastic Surgery and Breast Surgery.
  • Clerking in Palliative Care patients.
  • Clerking in emergency Plastic Surgery patients when on-call.
  • There is very little time and it's rare to go into theatre or clinics, but you are encouraged to do this if you have time.
Typical work pattern:
  • Full shift, covering Plastic Surgery, Breast Surgery and Palliative Care on a daily basis.
  • Also covering ENT, Opthalmology, Dermatology and Neurosurgery when on-call.
Learning opportunities:
  • Journal club every week.
  • Consultant teaching every week.
Teaching:
  • Consultant teaching for 30mins - 1 hour.  Not always possible due to theatre lists.
Unique selling points:
  • Some really good teaching e.g. about hand injuries/fractures.
  • Registrars keen to teach and answer questions.
