Main duties of placement:

General medical duties in inpatient psychiatric wards include providing medical cover, attending to physical health concerns, admission clerking in, discharge summaries, mental state examinations and ongoing review & management of psychiatric presentations in the elderly – both with and without dementia.

 

 

OOH – nights at PRI covering AMU 

Typical work pattern:

Monday – Friday 9AM to 5PM

OOH nights at PRI – Typically about 20 night shifts in the 4 month block

Learning opportunities:

Assessment of mental state and the close interplay of physical and mental health presentations, especially in the elderly

Assessment and management of various dementia presentations along with managing Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia

Experience of wholistic MDT working including SW, OT and Psychology Colleagues with opportunity to shadow the MDT assessments

Outpatient clinic experience including for Dementia diagnosis

Improving understanding of legal frameworks – AWI and MHA

Teaching:

Weekly psychiatric teaching

Access to FY teaching programme

Opportunity to develop your own teaching skills by teaching medical students on placement in the department
