Main duties of placement:

Assessing patients coming through A&E doors.

Helping out in resuscitation of critically ill patients.

Performing simple procedures, i.e. suture wounds, reducing shoulder dislocation.

Typical work pattern:

Variety of day, late and night shifts.

10-12 hour shift lengths.

On average, work one in two weekends.

Learning opportunities:

Case-based discussion occurs daily where management plans for unwell patients are formulated and discussed with senior doctors.

Teaching:

Protected teaching time for regional teaching and in-house A&E teaching sessions every week.
