Main duties of placement:

Daily ward rounds led by ST1/FY2.

Twice weekly consultant ward rounds.

General ward work.

Typical work pattern:

Full shifts, mostly 9am-5pm with one long shift until 9pm each week. Normally two weeks of nights and two weekends on call per 4 month block.

Learning opportunities:

Ward-based teaching from registrars; weekly oncology educational meeting.

MDTs are on every week which FYs are encouraged to attend for education.

Teaching:

FY2 teaching as per delivered education programme.

Lots of opportunity to teach medical students as there are often many on placement in the department.

Unique selling points:

Very good opportunity to learn on the ward by having FY2-led ward rounds. Great team in which to work with good support and feedback from both registrars and consultants.
