Placement Dermatology
Year F1
Region East
Hospital(s) Ninewells Hospital, Dundee
Main Duties of Placement
  • Day-to-day patient care.
  • Clerking in elective/emergency admissions.
  • Daily ward rounds.
Typical Work Pattern
  • 0830 - 1630 hrs daily.
  • No weekends.
  • No on-call shifts.
  • 2 sets of nights covering West Block surgery (Plastics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery, Dermatology) or Haematology, Oncology and Gynaecology.
Learning Opportunities
  • Opportunistic teaching by registrars and consultants on the ward/during ward rounds.
  • Opportunities to observe in dermatology clinics.
Teaching
  • FY1 teaching as per delivered education programme.
  • Opportunities to be involved in medical student teaching.
Unique Selling Points
  • Opportunities to see patients with very rare conditions (e.g. Polydermatomyositis, Behçet's disease, Morphoea).
  • Opportunities to learn about multiple topical treatments and dressings which will be transferable across all specialties.
