Placement Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery
Year F1
Region East
Hospital(s) Ninewells Hospital, Dundee
Main Duties of Placement
  • Attend morning trauma meeting
  • Clerk elective cases
  • Carry out ward duties and write discharge scripts
  • Attend pre-assessment/pre-admission clinics
  • Clerk in of trauma patients when on-call
Typical Work Pattern
  • Normal days 08:30-16:30
  • Every 2 weeks long day on-call 08:30-21:00
  • Weekends 08:30-21:00 once every 2 months
  • Night shifts - one full week once in 4 months
  • Those who have a one month placement in Ward 7 or Stracathro will receive a specific working schedule from that department.

Teaching
  • Mandatory FY1 teaching - approx 3 hrs each month
  • FY2 lead case presentations for FY1s
  • Morning trauma meetings
