| Main Duties of Placement | Ward rounds. Ward duties such as venflons and venepuncture. Reviewing ill patients. Clerking referrals. Theatre opportunity when quiet/occasional emergencies. Discussing patients with radiology/referring patients to other specialties or asking for reviews for specialties. Completing discharge letters. |

| Typical Work Pattern | Based on surgical receiving (approx. two months) and a surgical specialty base ward which may include Otolaryngology (ENT) (approx. two months).

| Learning Opportunities | Ward-based/ward round teachin. Theatre sessions. Approachable staff throughout the department at all levels. Weekly meeting with FY1 presentation which is educational.
