Main duties of placement:

Attend daily ward rounds with Consultant and/or Specialty doctor and/or GPST.

Clerk new admissions from ED and wards.

Deal with tasks relating to inpatient administration – test requests and monitoring of results, medication and fluid prescription, daily note updates, discussions with patients and relatives.

Write eIDL in time for patient discharge.

Collate weekly list of CT and other scans for radiology MDT meeting.

Write weekly ward MDT notes.

Typical work pattern:

Typical working pattern (e.g. full shift, cross cover with AMAU etc.).

Partial shift cross-covering during evenings and weekends with ward 205 (neurology/neurosurgery) next-door.

Learning opportunities:

Weekly radiology MDT meeting.

Weekly ward based teaching/M+M/audit meeting.

Weekly (term-time) hospital Grand Rounds.

Consultant teaching ward rounds twice weekly.

Teaching:

Own: Weekly 1 hour session in Forest Grove House for FY1s.

Of others: Teaching of 4th and 5th year medical students and physician associate students attached to the ward.

Unique selling points:

Close involvement with the consultant staff who are very ‘hands on’.
