Main duties of placement:

Monday morning: Outpatient clinic with Dr Duncan in clinic C, ARI (9.00 - 12.30) - 4 new patients all to be discussed with Dr Duncan.

Monday afternoon, all day Tuesday and Wednesday: Ward 40 - ward work and ward rounds as required, supervised by neurology Core Medical Trainee, neurology ward registrar and Consultant on-call for the week.

Thursday morning 9.00 - 11.00: ward round/ward work; 11.00 - 12.00: Multidisciplinary ward meeting; 12.00 - 13.00: Neuro-radiology meeting (all or part to be attended depending on FY1 teaching program).

Thursday afternoon 12.30 - 13.30: FYI teaching; 13.30 - 14.15: Neurology teaching case; 14.30 - 15.30: Neurology education program; 15.30 -17.00: ward work.

Friday 09.00 - 10.00: ward round/ward work; 10.00 - 13.00: MS relapse clinic with MS nurse supervised by ward registrar or consultant on-call for the week; 13.00 - 17.00: ward work.

Typical work pattern:

Monday to Friday day time only.

Handover each morning at 08.30. No out of hours commitments.

Learning opportunities:

Neurology history taking and examination (clinics and ward work).

Weekly multidisciplinary team meeting.

Weekly neuro-radiology meeting.

Weekly clinical case.

Weekly educational and clinical governance programme.

Teaching:

Weekly teaching program: Thursday at 12.30.

Weekly clinic with 1:1 supervision and weekly MS relapse clinic provide a great opportunity to improve neurology history taking and examination.

Will be fully trained to perform lumbar punctures.

Close supervision with ample opportunity to gain the required competencies.
