Main duties of placement:

Ward rounds; admitting elective and emergency patients; routine post-op review; preparing discharge materials; attendance at theatre as required; co-ordinating investigations; arranging onward referral.

Typical work pattern:

Full shift with cross cover.

Learning opportunities:

Ward based learning; weekly x-ray meeting; monthly audit/teaching meeting; daily orthopaedic x-ray review; journal club.

Teaching:

Weekly FY1 teaching (on site); opportunity to video link to national teaching.

Small team with direct consultant contact and supervision; friendly hospital with easy access; opportunity to carry out practical procedures and access to theatre; dedicated period of 4 weeks in anaesthesia to learn advanced airway, cannulation and other skills; 12 week period in Critical Care to learn care of acute/severely ill in all specialties.
