Main duties of placement:

The FY1s and FY2s are part of a junior medical paediatric rota at RACH which comprises 10 doctors spending a week at a time in different areas (Assessment Unit, Medical Ward, High Dependency Ward, Day Case Unit as well as Nights when they also cover the Surgical Ward).

Typical work pattern:

Average working hours per week 43.9.

Learning opportunities:

Teaching provided as well as ward teaching every week.

Tuesdays - one hour x-ray meeting.

Teaching:

Wednesday 9am includes Departmental Educational talks (MDT forum) and M&M Meetings monthly. All are encouraged to present a case in this meeting.

Thursday 8.30am is FY2 teaching and they are asked to present and discuss topics for colleagues. SPR's and Consultants also participate.

There is a Friday X-ray meeting at 1.30pm and a Journal Club at 1pm on a monthly basis.

All are actively encouraged to go to Wednesday Grand Round Meetings during term time.

1 hr mandatory teaching/week for FY1 trainees.

Unique selling points:

Educational Supervision is closely undertaken, although you will work closely with all Consultants and feedback from them is sought.
