Main duties of placement:

Attend daily consultant-led ward rounds. General running of ward, organising of tests, reviewing critically ill patients under direct senior supervision. Admission of new patients.

Typical work pattern:

Full shift rota – cross-cover nights with Respiratory.

Learning opportunities:

Weekly Wednesday morning teaching session on pertinent HDU topics led by consultants. Contribution to M&M meetings. Ample opportunity to learn new practical skills.

Teaching:

Consultants with broad and varied backgrounds who are enthusiastic to teach while on ward in addition to above scheduled sessions.

Unique selling points:

Consultant-led service with daily consultant input/supervision. Great learning opportunities for central line and arterial line placement. Experience of resp failure/NIV, invasive monitoring, sepsis, AKI, GI bleeding all under one roof!
