Main duties of placement: | Attend daily consultant-led ward rounds. General running of ward, organising of tests, reviewing critically ill patients under direct senior supervision. Admission of new patients. |
Typical work pattern: | Full shift rota – cross-cover nights with Respiratory. |
Learning opportunities: | Weekly Wednesday morning teaching session on pertinent HDU topics led by consultants. Contribution to M&M meetings. Ample opportunity to learn new practical skills. |
Teaching: | Consultants with broad and varied backgrounds who are enthusiastic to teach while on ward in addition to above scheduled sessions. |
Unique selling points: | Consultant-led service with daily consultant input/supervision. Great learning opportunities for central line and arterial line placement. Experience of resp failure/NIV, invasive monitoring, sepsis, AKI, GI bleeding all under one roof! |
