Main duties of placement:

The department is keen to maximise continuity of consultant teams and ward attachment, as well as patient care. Posts usually involve exposure to several specialities.

Typical work pattern:

All attachments retain an equal commitment to acute medical receiving on a 1 in 8 basis; all trainees receive largely with their own team. The current rota is a partial shift and includes 2-3 weeks night duty.

Learning opportunities:

A protected weekly lunchtime teaching programme is provided for FY1s and attendance is also encouraged at the hospital X-ray meeting (Wednesday lunchtime) and clinical grand round (Friday lunchtime). All staff are encouraged to participate in the monthly audit programme.
