Main duties of placement:

The post holder will gain an introduction to plastics. You will attend daily ward rounds with a registrar, will attend outpatient clinics and assist at both elective and emergency plastic surgery operations. You will have the opportunity to carry out a large number of more minor operations under local anaesthetic, both supervised and on your own.

Typical work pattern:

A weekly teaching session takes place, covering various aspects of plastic surgery - MRCS teaching is also available on a weekly basis. There is also a multi-disciplinary head and neck meeting on a weekly basis.

Learning opportunities:

Joint clinics with orthopaedic surgery for those interested in hand surgery and a joint clinic with dermatology aimed at discussing complex skin cancer patients.

Teaching:

2 x2 hr teaching per month for FY2 trainees.

The post is suitable both for those interested in possibly pursuing a career in plastic surgery and those hoping to gain a basic understanding of the speciality i.e. those interested in pursuing an orthopaedic career.
