Main duties of placement: | A&E/Ward work. A&E administration. Ward rounds, clerking. Medical admissions/patient care, general ward. Assistance in theatre. A&E cover - Out of Hours & nights. |
Typical work pattern: | Day shift: 8.30 - 16.30 (ward) Long day/Weekend: 8.30 - 21.00 (ward & A&E) Night: 21.00 - 9.00 (ward & A&E) On-call, cross-cover with A&E and surgery during weekend and night. |
Learning opportunities: | Ward-based teaching. Morning board-round - good opportunity to learn. Ward rounds. Friday lunchtime session (incl. alternate Journal Club, internal M&M). Early morning tutorials twice per week. Practical supervision in A&E. |
Teaching: | Very good teaching twice per week 7.50 - 8.30. Once monthly group with local GP facilitator in Oban plus once per block in Fort William. |
Unique selling points: | Good A&E experience; see broad range of medicine, surgical issues and major trauma. Lots of responsibility/decision making as no middle grades. Work directly with consultants. Cross-cover medicine, surgery and A&E. Consultants more present/available for advice. Friendly atmosphere, great outdoors. Medicine, surgery and A&E cover. Requirement to 'act-up'. Solo cover at night. The location in West Highlands. |
