Main Duties of Placement | Within the Department of Cardiology FY1 trainees will be exposed to training and service opportunities which will be of value in their acquisition of clinical competence. |
Typical Work Pattern | You will attend daily ward rounds and participate in normal day-to-day ward work, including clerking patients. Participation in outpatient clinics once per week, and in the operating theatre roughly twice per week. You will be able to retrieve a segment of long saphenous vein from the leg by the end of a 4 month attachment with us. |
Learning Opportunities | The routine work gives daily exposure to chest X-Ray and CT scan interpretation, as well as daily management of chest drains. You will look after patients in our High Dependancy Unit and as such become familiar with normal and abnormal cardiovascular and respiratory physiology and the monitoring thereof. |
Teaching | Weekly educational meetings take place in the form of lunchtime Respiratory and Cardiology meetings, early morning thoracic and cardiology. |
