Main Duties of Placement | This post is designed to give the trainee a wide range of experience in psychiatry. It combines liaison and addictions psychiatry, and offers exposure to acute general adult psychiatry. The work itself is a combination of inpatient work primarily on Ruthven Ward at New Craigs but also outpatient work in a range of different settings, and liaison psychiatry at Raigmore Hospital. The trainee will also spend a day a week with the mental health assessment team, who see all unplanned assessments at New Craigs. |

Learning Opportunities | There is ward-based teaching available both formally and informally. Cases are discussed at a weekly multidisciplinary meeting. There are also weekly journal club or case presentations on a Tuesday lunchtime. |
Teaching | In addition to attendance at the usual FY1 teaching, the trainee would be given the opportunity of attending, along with the other trainees, a weekly Balint style supervision group, and interview skills training. |
Unique Selling Points | The trainee will be working directly with one consultant and will have a unique opportunity to obtain a wide range of experience in psychiatry. |
