Placement Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery

Main Duties of Placement

F2 trainees will be attached to the Trauma and Orthopaedic Unit on the ARI site for 4 months. They will work closely with one or two consultants during their attachment.

Typical Work Pattern

The on-call rota is approved as compliant and is 1 in 9 at present with an afternoon off following a night resident on-call. There is a well-staffed library with Internet access. There will be an opportunity to learn surgical skills appropriate to experience, to attend orthopaedic outpatient clinics held on site and to participate in pre-operative and post-operative surgical cares. Rota is compliant with EWTD.

Learning Opportunities

There is a weekly arthroplasty audit meeting where F2 trainees can present cases, Friday afternoon bleep-free postgraduate orthopaedic teaching and a specific course of weekly tutorials for F2 doctors.

Teaching

2 x 2hr monthly teaching programme for FY2 trainees.
