Main duties of placement:

Daily ward rounds alone or with senior doctor.

Usually 1-2 clerk-ins per day. 

Family discussions. 

Typical work pattern:

Regular 9-5 hours.

One evening/over-night per week on-call from home, covering Marie Curie and St Columbas Hospices.

One weekend in 5; mornings spent in hospice, then on-call from home. 

Learning opportunities:

Weekly MDT and discharge planning meetings.

Senior doctors very present on ward; constant informal teaching and feedback.

Regular opportunities to teach medical students.

Audit opportunities.

Teaching:

1 hour per week FY2 hospital teaching. 

Regular informal teaching. 

Unique selling points:

Very small, close-knit medical and MDT, with plenty of support from senior doctors and opportunities to learn and develop knowledge.

Lots of time to invest with patients and families.
