Main duties of placement:

Care of general adult in-patients aged 18-64 with a variety of psychiatric conditions.  Clerking in, gathering information from relatives and others, attending ward rounds, handover meetings and discharge planning meetings. Dictation of admission summary and discharge letter.

Typical work pattern:

Monday-Friday 9am-5pm plus long days (to 9pm) and blocks of night and weekend duties. All on call work is within psychiatric services.

Learning opportunities:

Regular opportunities for ward-based teaching and to attend team learning sessions.

Option to attend weekly psychiatry wide case conference, special lectures every two weeks.

Weekly Supervision.

Teaching:

Weekly Foundation Teaching Programme in Psychiatry, Balint Group and drop in sessions which take place at the REH.

 

Monthly regional FY2 teaching programme which takes place at the Western General Hospital

Unique selling points:

One-to-one working with a consultant in a busy service. Opportunity to assess new outpatients under supervision.
