Main duties of placement:

Care of adult inpatients admitted for detox, stabilisation and transfer of alcohol and drugs, and relapse prevention.

Attending daily ward rounds, and admission of patients (rapid turnover). Dictation of complex discharge letters. Meeting with relatives where appropriate.

Participate in Ritson Outreach Service – providing advice and review of any in-patient in REH referred with drug/ alcohol problems, under supervision of consultant psychiatrist and charge nurses.

Weekly group regarding medical problems.

Typical work pattern:

Monday-Friday 9am-5pm plus long days (to 9 pm) and blocks of night and weekend duties. All on call work is within psychiatric services.

Learning opportunities:

Regular opportunities for ward-based teaching.

Option to attend weekly psychiatry wide case conference, special lectures every two weeks.

Weekly supervision

Teaching:

Weekly Foundation Teaching Programme in Psychiatry, Balint Group and drop in sessions which take place at the REH

Monthly regional FY2 teaching programme which takes place at the Western General Hospital
