| Main duties of placement: | Varies depending on shift pattern. Normal ward cover, as well as late shifts helping with the team. Hospital at Night covering general medicine and surgery. Admitting shifts provide an opportunity to see patients at the front door and carry out practical procedures working with registrars. Educational days for FY2 only, opportunity for clinics and theatre. |
| Typical work pattern: | Normal days: 08:00-17:00 Late shifts: 14:00-21:00 Admitting shifts: 10:00-21:00 2/3 sets of nights over the block |
| Learning opportunities: | Great learning opportunities in A&E. Possibility to perform fracture reductions, joint aspirations, and joint reductions. The trauma meetings are a great way to learn about different fractures and management options for each. Two educational days for surgical logbook |
| Teaching: | Weekly departmental teaching on top of normal FY2 teaching. |
| Unique selling points: | Busy surgical department, learning to manage acutely unwell patients with more responsibilities. Great for those wishing to pursue a career in trauma and orthopaedics. Opportunities to get involved in audits/research. Good, friendly senior support. |
