Main duties of placement:

First on call for adult and paediatric ENT, with support from a registrar and consultant on call.

In SJH, ward round followed by tasks and assessment of ward attenders, with support from FY1s.  

You will be responsible for management of elective and emergency ENT cases.

There are emergency clinics in the afternoons M-Thurs staffed by FY2/GPST/CT/CF. 

At RHCYP  the duties are varied and include clinic (observing), theatre assisting and assessment of ENT patients referred by GPs, other specialities  and the ED.

Nights and weekends are at SJH and cross cover plastics and MFS.

When staffing allows theatre and clinics can be attended.

Typical work pattern:

Full shift pattern with shifts  ranging from 8- 12.5 hours. 

Learning opportunities:

Well supported by oncall registrars and consultants 24/7.

Teaching:

Departmental internal teaching programme 1 hour per week.

Hospital FY2 teaching programme 1 hour per week.

Unique selling points:

Unique surgical sub-speciality whereyou will be trained in the practical skills of management of epistaxis, quinsy drainage, microsuction of ears ,flexible nasendoscopy, nasal manipulation  and tracheostomy care.

Opportunities to observe/assist in interesting surgeries as well as run an emergency clinic.
