Main duties of placement:

Daily ward rounds; at least twice a week, consultant led.

Acute medical receiving with supervision from a Registrar and a Consultant.

Typical work pattern:

Blocks of 6 weeks 'on call' and 6 weeks on medical ward.

Evening shifts once weekly for 4 weeks whilst on ward block.

Learning opportunities:

Microteaching in AU1 weekdays

Regular opportunities for ward-based teaching.

Weekly MDTM on most wards.

Weekly Grand Round and x-ray meeting.

Teaching:

Mandatory protected teaching time for:

  • NHS Fife Medical Education Services FY2 Core Education Programme delivering 1 hour per week.
  • NHS Fife Medical Education Services FY2 Core Simulation Programme delivering 3 sessions per block.

Departmental teaching:

  • Interdepartmental teaching depending on ward to which you are attached.
  • NHS Fife Grand Round weekly shared teaching.
