Main duties of placement:

Second on-call for General Surgery & Urology.

SHDU/Critical Care Responsibility & Training.

Elective Ward rounds.

Theatre and Endoscopy sessions as possible.

Typical work pattern:

Full shift covering on-call surgery, Urology & Surgical HDU.

Learning opportunities:

Ward & HDU-based teaching.

Theatre and Endoscopy as appropriate.

MDT Meetings.

Weekly Surgical Teaching Programme.

Teaching:

Mandatory protected teaching time for:

  • NHS Fife Medical Education Services FY2 Core Education Programme delivering 1 hour per week.
  • NHS Fife Medical Education Services FY2 Core Simulation Programme delivering 3 sessions per block.

Departmental teaching:

  • General Surgery teaching programme.
  • Ward-based teaching in General Surgery by specialist trainees/consultants.
  • Weekly grand rounds for whole acute division.
Unique selling points:

Current FY2s have found the Critical Care Training to be excellent and especially enjoy the variety of emergency work.
