Main duties of placement:

The majority of time is spent in the Haematology inpatient wards, ward 8 and 8U in the management of patients with a range of haematological disorders but predominately haematological cancers. T

here is also some time spent covering the Haematology day case service in ward 7.

Typical work pattern:

Majority of shifts are day shifts 08:30-17:00 but also include late 14:00-22:00, weekend 09:00-21:30 and night shifts 21:00-09:00.

Learning opportunities:

As well as weekly F2 teaching there are weekly departmental meetings attended by the whole unit as well as plenty opportunities for 'on the job' learning and clinical audit.

Teaching:

Hospital F2 teaching 1 hour per week.

Unit departmental meetings 1 hour per week.

Unique selling points:

Very good experience in managing the acutely unwell patient.

Good support from senior colleagues.
