Main duties of placement: | Ward work. Ward rounds. Admitting emergency cases with established or possible infection. 4 months in Infectious Diseases. |
Typical work pattern: | 1 in 5 evenings and weekends, plus Hospital at Night at Western General Hospital (usually 2 sets of 4 nights over 4 months). |
Learning opportunities: | Ward-based clinical teaching. Infection Service MDT, Journal club and Educational Seminar weekly. Consultant-led unit. |
Teaching: | Weekly foundation teaching (Tuesday), grand rounds (Wednesdays), Tuesday afternoon Registrar delived infection teaching |
Unique selling points: | Consultant-led with easily accessible consultants and consultant rounds daily. Small, supportive friendly unit. Opportunity to see HIV, imported and complex community-acquired infection. |
