Main duties of placement:

Ward work.

Ward rounds.

Admitting emergency cases with established or possible infection.

4 months in Infectious Diseases.

Typical work pattern:

1 in 5 evenings and weekends, plus Hospital at Night at Western General Hospital (usually 2 sets of 4 nights over 4 months). 

Learning opportunities:

Ward-based clinical teaching.

Infection Service MDT, Journal club and Educational Seminar weekly.

Consultant-led unit.

Teaching:

Weekly foundation teaching (Tuesday), grand rounds (Wednesdays), Tuesday afternoon Registrar delived infection teaching

Unique selling points:

Consultant-led with easily accessible consultants and consultant rounds daily.

Small, supportive friendly unit.

Opportunity to see HIV, imported and complex community-acquired infection.
