Main duties of placement:

Palliative care ward rounds & jobs.  Options to join palliative care outreach reviews & to shadow community nursing team.

General medical on call – nights (hospital @ night), evening ward/MAU cover & weekend ward/MAU cover.

Typical work pattern:

As above 9-5 within palliative care team, with out of hours in general medicine; late shifts 5-9:30pm, nights 9-9:30, weekend long days 9-9:30

Learning opportunities:

Ward MDT, consultant ward round.

Witness procedures, honing communication skills esp. difficult conversations.

Gain confidence in recognising dying & anticipatory prescribing/symptom control.

Teaching:

FY1 mandatory teaching programme (1hr per week in person) & simulation.

‘Lunch & learn’ departmental meetings twice monthly.

Weekly Grand Round.
