Main duties of placement:

The majority of your time is spent supervised in theatre where you are taught to perform practical procedures as well as theoretical knowledge such as physiology and pharmacology.

Monday to Friday 8am-5.30pm. You will also receive a rota for your night shifts with HAN where you are largely based on the orthopaedic wards admitting patients.

Learning opportunities:

There are plenty of learning opportunities in theatre. The FY1 carries a cardiac arrest bleep which serves mainly an educational purpose. You can attend the tutorials held for anaesthetic trainees. There are departmental meetings on Friday afternoons.

Teaching:

You are guaranteed time off for departmental educational meetings on Friday afternoons, as well as FY1 Teaching 1 hour per week.

Unique selling points:

The learning opportunities; this job is unique in that the emphasis of the placement is on training as opposed to the normal ward duties of an FY1.

It is important to note that this description is a typical example of your placement and may be subject to change.
