Main duties of placement:

Ward rounds in the morning and afternoon, clerking patients for elective admissions, assisting in theatre, working in surgical observations unit for emergency admissions.

Typical work pattern:

Shifts change every week and vary from 8-8.30 to 9-5. 

Night/mid shifts and weekends included.

Learning opportunities:

X-ray meetings on Friday PM

M&M on Wednesday AM

HPB/UGI MDT on a weekly basis- encouraged to attend

HPB sit-down handover rounds- good for learning

Strong academic focus, opportunities for audits/research projects

Teaching:

Opportunistic ward teaching,

Weekly FY1 teaching.

Unique selling points:

Opportunity to assess emergency admissions.

Opportunities to attend theatre during the day and night

Elective ward rounds supported by Pas

Consultant led ward rounds 7/7
