Placement Cardiology
Year F2

Main Duties of Placement

Daily ward rounds with close support and supervision from registrar and consultant.

Three outpatient clinics per week including rapid access chest pain clinic.

There is an option to accompany consultant and registrar during morning ward round on medical admissions unit.

Seeing patients in ARU trolleys (assessment area) as part of evening/weekend on call. Hospital at night as per rota.

Typical Work Pattern

9am-5pm on ward.

Late shifts 17.30 - 21.30.

Evening shift in ARU every 2 weeks approximately.

Approximately two weekends during attachment (days) in ARU and approx 4 blocks of night shifts as part of H@N team.

Learning Opportunities

Frequent consultant-led ward rounds.

Weekly F2 teaching.

Weekly Echo meeting.

Weekly hospital Grand Rounds.

Closely supervised out-patient clinic consultations (including rapid access chest pain clinic). This includes consultation and clinic letter dictation.

Excellent acute medicine clinical experience in ARU trolleys (similar to A&E).

Teaching

Mandatory F2 teaching weekly and echo meeting.

Unique Selling Points

Seeing patients in rapid access chest pain clinic, lots of outpatient clinic experience and frequent consultant ward rounds. Plenty of time to do own projects e.g. audit.

There is an opportunity for self-directed experience in cardiac ultrasound.

This includes observing scans in the department and watching sonographers report scans.
