Main duties of placement:
  • Responsible for the day to day care of ward and surgical inpatients.
  • Attending daily ward rounds.
  • Rotate through Surgical Receiving.
  • Rotate through orthopaedics.
Typical work pattern:
  • Day, late and night shifts.
  • Cross cover for acute surgical admissions.
  • Hospital at Night team on-site.
Learning opportunities:
  • Hospital and departmental induction.
  • Dedicated, protected weekly foundation teaching.
  • Weekly journal club, grand rounds and lunchtime meetings as part of hospital CME programmed.
  • Ample opportunity to undertake audit with presentation at audit and research evenings.
Teaching:

Mandatory bleep-free FY1 teaching for 1 or 2 hours each week (lunchtime Tuesday and/or Thursday) and opportunity to attend general teaching on a Friday morning.
