Main duties of placement:

Care of critically ill adults (level 2 and 3 care) in a busy combined ICU and HDU. Involved in ward care, assessment and resuscitation of acutely unwell patients and ward rounds. Rotation to theatre for one week, microbiology for one week, optional week in acute pain.

Typical work pattern:

Daytime shift pattern and working one in five weekends.

Learning opportunities:

Plentiful ward-based teaching, critical care tutorials weekly, access to online modules and in-house study days. Many opportunities to develop practical skills in all aspects of care.

Teaching:
  • Hospital teaching, one hour bleep-free per week.
  • Regular anaesthetic department educational meetings.
  • Access to hospital "Grand Rounds".
  • Critical care tutorial weekly.
Unique selling points:

Supervised closely by consultant staff with regular speciality and AHP multidisciplinary working.

Possible to achieve most FY competencies during this rotation.
