Main duties of placement:

Ward round, jobs following round e.g. organising scans and referrals, reviewing patients, practical procedure

Typical work pattern:

Full shift with weekends but no nights.

Learning opportunities:
  • Weekly surgical education/M+M meeting.
  • Weekly colorectal, upper GI and vascular MDTs.
  • Ward-based teaching.
Teaching:
  • Weekly mandatory FY1 teaching for 1 hour at lunchtime.
  • Additional FY lunchtime teaching by STs.
  • Surgical registrar lunchtime teaching.
  • Meetings as above.
