Main duties of placement:
  • Ward management of patients.
  • Pre-assessment clinics and theatre when able.
Typical work pattern:

Daytime working with a long day (8am-8pm) or receiving days (9am-9.30pm) 1 in 4 days. Cross-cover for surgery on long days. Weekend cover once per month with cross cover for surgery. Participate in hospital-wide FY1 HAN rota. 7 nights per 4 months.

  • Daily trauma meetings with daily trauma ward round.
  • Weekly Weds surgical departmental meeting.
  • Friday departmental teaching with F1 case-based presentation and middle grade journal presentation. 
  • Weekly Tuesday F1 teaching.
  • Bi-monthly Thursday F1 teaching.
Teaching:
  • Weekly Tuesday F1 teaching programme covering Foundation syllabus.
  • Bi-monthly Thursday CMT-led F1 teaching.
