Main duties of placement:

Care of children and neonates undergoing general surgical and surgical specialty procedures.

Typical work pattern:
  • Full shift, including night shifts, with cover provided for emergency surgical admissions.
  • Hospital at night team on-site.
Learning opportunities:
  • Plentiful, dedicated surgical teaching in addition to active hospital CME programme.
  • Most trainees undertake and present projects during this placement.
Teaching:
  • Mandatory FY1 teaching.
  • Bleep free surgical teaching 2 hrs a week.
  • Lunchtime CME Monday and Tuesday.
  • Opportunity to attend general paediatric teaching on a Friday AM.
